Guidance Gate

The Guidance Gate is a place in the temple that is intended to “guide” those who would defile the tomb to their deaths. Only fitting, as it is the first area in La-Mulana and serves as a introduction to the dangers you’ll face in La-Mulana.

Layout
The stage is an 8-bit stage in the style of the Mario Bros. stage from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The stage’s layout is much like the Battlefield stage, but rather than being a floating platform, it’s a large pillar that goes right down into the K.O. zone. On the far right of the stage, a ladder goes down toward the K.O. zone. The very top platform near the ceiling has a ladder that extends to the uppermost K.O. zone. In the exact center of the main platform is a set of spikes about as large as Kirby. Underneath the floating platform to the left is a pot as seen from La-Mulana. It can be smashed to obtain items, if they are turned on. On top of the left floating platform is a switch turns on a wall that springs up on the right edge of the uppermost floating platform. It can be put down again by hitting the switch again. The ladder on the top of the stage has a switch right to the right of it. The treasure chest on the right floating platform acts a major hazard, but more on that later. Also, the face in the background has an effect on the stage, but that’ll be saved for the hazards section. The background is just as seen in the picture, but there are also bats fluttering around i and various skeletal remains in the background.

Hazards
Hazard #1:
Treasure Box |
The treasure box on the floating platform to the right is a doubled edged sword. While it can give items on occasion when struck, it will occasionally sound the La-Mulana “trap activated” noise from the game and strike the box’s attacker with a painful lightning bolt. It deals about 15% damage.
Hazard #2:
Spikes |
The spikes in the center of the stage can cause damage when touched. They deal 7% per touch as well as fairly high knockback. Bet you didn’t see that coming, eh?
Hazard #3:
Switches |
There are two switches on the stage. The one on the left floating platform will, when struck, set up a wall on the right edge of the uppermost platform. Unless you get crushed by the rising wall, it shouldn’t have too much of an effect. The switch on the other side, however, causes an invisible floor to spawn from the edge of the top platform. The floor goes from the edge of that platform and then extends to the right K.O. zone. This can complicate recovering from a hard-hitting move.
Hazard #4:
Stone Face |
That face on the wall in the background can occasionally drop and roll a boulder towards the stage. It’ll temporarily break the spikes and turn them into throwable items. The boulder will deal 10% damage upon contact with a player. The boulder is about the size of Bowser.
