Mercay Island is the island on which Link wakes up in Phantom Hourglass. It is where he meets Ciela and Oshus. He gets a sword in a cave next to Oshus' house. As the island is the starting location of the game, the enemies are small and weak, such as Chu Chus and Rats. However, The island is the location of the more sinister Temple of the Ocean King.
Many earthquakes occur on the island. These earthquakes often cause the bridges to collapse causing the inhabitants to get from one side of the island to the other by going around the long way. These paths are dangerous with dark caves and monsters along the way. This happens to Link early in the game, forcing him to take a route though dangerous caves, crawling with rats, and with puzzles to solve.

The dock takes up most of the stage, with a small patch of 'village area' located on the far left side of the stage. The village buildings and boat workshop can be seen in the background. Every once in a while, a random ship will pull up to the dock and its captain will walk out of it. The most recognizable of the ship owners is the eccentric trader, Beedle.
