The bait is a piece of tasty meat which is used to lure enemies away from places so Link could destroy them. This technique was necessary to move a hungry Goriya so that Link could move forward.

In Smash, players may pick up the meat and toss it. If it is caught by one of your enemies, they will restore health, but if it just hits the ground, it can't be eaten. Any Assist Trophies on the stage will immmeditly direct their attacks at the Bait. This includes summoned creatures like King Dedede's Waddle Dees, and Pokeball Pokemon. If someone picks up the Bait, the creatures will follow it, damaging whoever picks it up. It doesn't need to be picked up to be activated.
