Cleft
Updated - September 12, 2010

The Cleft is a staple-enemy in the Paper Mario series of video games. Characterized by it's rocky exterior with extremely sharp spikes and ironic cleft-chin, these baddies are high in both defense and offense, making them formidable foes from the start of the game to the end. The best way to get rid of them early on is through the hammer, and later with their evolved forms perhaps the job would be best given to super attacks.

    Works:
Paper Mario (Nintendo 64)
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo GameCube)

General Information
Health: 5HP (Easy-Medium)
10HP (Hard-Very Hard)
20HP (Intense)
Mode of Travel: From the start, the Cleft will look exactly like that of a normal rock, curled up in disguise. Once another force nears it, whether it be the player or another enemy, or even an item of sorts, it'll quickly uncurl itself charge towards the force with an unexpectedly great speed. Once the being or object moves further away, whether it be through KO or fleeing, the Cleft will walk calmly about in a guard-like manner for a few moments before returning to its initial rock form.
Origin: Paper Mario Date of Origin: August 11, 2000
Attack Method
During its mode of travel when it's in its charge, the Cleft may end up hitting the player with the long spike jutting from the middle of its forehead. If it does such a thing, it'll deal a copious 14% damage with a solid mid-knockback. Because of the spike, it can only truly be damaged through attacks that do not use the body and the body only.
