Shulk is the main protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles. A young Homs who lives in Colony 9, most of his time is spent either with his friends Reyn and Fiora, the latter who he has a crush on, or in his lab researching the Monado, a sword that was found with him when he was a child by Dickson, who Shulk sees as a father figure. The Monado has helped Fiora's sister, Dunban, win a war against the Mechon one year before. Shulk is very methodical and always prefers to think things through. When the Mechon return to attack Colony 9, Shulk is forced to take up the Monado and gains the ability to see the future. After having a vision of one of his friends being killed by a Faced Mechon, Shulk tries to prevent this, but fails and his friend is killed. The day after, Shulk and Reyn set off in pursuit of the Mechon to avenge their friends killed in the attack.
