Serge is the main character of Chrono Cross, the spiritual sequel to Chrono Trigger. Serge was born in the fishing village of Arni on the El Nido archipelago. He is a silent protagonist, which means that he does not speak for the entirety of the game. Serge is the tipping point which created the split dimensions of Chrono Cross. He came in contact with the Frozen Flame at the tender age of three, in his father, Wazuki’s, desperation to heal the boy after being mauled by a panther demon. This would choose Serge as the Flame’s controller, and bound Wazuki and his friend, Miguel, into a cruel slavery by the supercomputer, FATE.
Serge was drowned four years later at Opassa Beach, by Wazuki. However, Kid travelled through time back to before Serge was drowned to save him, so that FATE would not have access to the Frozen Flame. This caused the dimensions to be split into the Home World, which is the world that Serge continues to live on inside, and Another World, which is the “true” world, in which Serge was drowned by Wazuki. Serge was sent on a predestined quest in order to save the world from FATE, and later the Time Devourer.

Attack Details
Standard Special:
Photon Ray (3%-11%) |
Serge will hold up his hand in front of his face, palm facing outward. His hand will glow white with energy that intensifies as you charge the attack. This attack doesn't have to be charged however. If the Standard Special button is merely pressed he will fire out a thin beam of light that can pierce through multiple opponents. This version of the attack deals between 3%-5% damage, but the longer you charge the attack the more damage it can deal up to a maximum of 11%. To fully charge this attack you must hold down the Standard Special button for a total of 5 seconds and after 2 seconds this attack will no longer pierce through multiple opponents. The beam of light has no distance limit but strong walls can stop it. |
Side Special:
Dash & Slash (6%-10%) |
Serge will hold his swallow blade behind him, one-handed and will dash forward the distance of one Dedede and will start to swing his swallow blade middash ending the swing where he stops. Foes hit by this will be dealt 6%-10% damage. This attack can be charged but it will only increase the distance that Serge dashes forward; it will NOT affect the amount of damage he does. Charging the attack for 2 seconds increases Serge's dash range to 2 Dededes and charging it for an additional 3 seconds will have Serge dash as far as three Dededes. |
Up Special:
Flying Arrow (~10%) |
Serge will take a giant leap upwards to about the height of two Bowsers, while holding his swallow blade in a position as if he were about to throw a javelin. Behind him, a larger clone of himself will appear and mimic Serge’s movements. Serge begins to charge an arrow of pure energy, which he will then fire forward at his opponents. This secondary attack is charged for three seconds before Serge lets it loose, but it can be skipped by pressing the air dodge button. If Serge decides to charge up the full special, he will be pushed upwards and backwards a slight bit. The “arrow” deals 10% damage on contact with an enemy, and mild knockback (a bit less than Kirby’s side special in Brawl). |
Down Special:
Luminaire (2%-10%) |
Serge begins to hover slightly off the ground (or in place, should he already be midair) as a twister of light rapidly curls around his body. Twister speedily forms into a small ball of light – about half the size of Samus’ fully charged standard special in Super Smash Bros. Brawl – above Serge’s head, as he holds his hands above his head, as if catching the ball. Serge then slams the ball downwards at an approximate 45º angle. The ball explodes on contact, dishing out large knockback and about 10% damage. If the opponent is hit by the aftershock of the explosion, they will take 2% damage, and suffer from a minimal amount of knockback. If Serge is using this attack midair, he enters a state of freefall after throwing the ball of light. |
Final Smash
Chrono Cross (20%-40%) |
Serge will rise up into the air, facing the screen and will hold his fist in front of his face as if he were charging up his energy. Then after Serge rises in the air a yellow orb will appear at the top of the screen followed swiftly and immediately by a red orb, then green, then blue, then black and finally white. These orbs cannot be interacted with anything and all things will merely pass through them. Then a huge swirl of energy that looks primarily white but has various streams in it of yellow, red, blue, green and black in it as well. This swirl starts small, centered around Serge but it will quickly enlarge to the size of Giga Bowser. If one where to get hit by this vortex of energy that is the Chrono Cross element, they will receive between 20%-40% damage. The attack is swift and gets larger at an alarming rate and once the energy reaches its maximum size it will stay that way for two seconds and then it will dissipate itself and Serge will fall back down to the stage and he will join back in the fight. |
