Donkey Kong, sometimes abbreviated DK, is a Nintendo video game character who first appeared in the popular 1981 video game of the same name. Initially, Donkey Kong was a large brown gorilla with no distinct features. Since Donkey Kong '94, he has been depicted wearing a red necktie, usually with a DK emblem.
Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the character, believed "donkey" meant "stupid" in English, and assumed the name would convey the sense "stupid ape" to an American audience. When he suggested this name to Nintendo of America, he was ridiculed, but the name stuck.
Works:
Donkey Kong Country (Super Nintendo)
Donkey Kong 64 (Nintendo 64)
Donkey Konga (Nintendo GameCube)

Attack Details
Standard Special:
Giant Punch (5%-40%) |
Donkey Kong winds up a punch after the first tap of the Special Move button. After a while, the Giant Punch will be fully charged, at which point Donkey Kong can then walk around. A second tap of the Special Move button will unleash the gigatic Punch, which can be performed while charging, but not with all its potential. |
Side Special:
Rocket Barrels (7%-16%) |
Donkey Kong quickly straps on his Rocket Barrels from Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and rocket horizontally forward about an equal distance compared to Fox McCloud's Fox Illusion. If Donkey Kong is attacked directly and heavily enough while rocketing forward, the Rocket Barrels will detach from Donkey Kong's back and continue flying across the screen, otherwise Donkey Kong would land on the ground and the Barrels will disappear. If the Barrels rocket into an obstacle, they'll explode on impact. |
Up Special:
Barrel Blast (7%-12%) |
Donkey Kong enters a Barrel Cannon and can use the Control Stick or D-Pad to aim and by releasing the Special Move button, blast his way through opponents. Donkey Kong's opponents could attack and break the Barrel Cannon, so DK can't take his time, also after about 3 seconds the Barrel Cannon will automatically fire itself and Donkey Kong. |
Down Special:
Coconut Cannon (2%-6%) |
Donkey Kong takes out his Coconut Cannon from Donkey Kong 64 and can fire a coconut horizontally by tapping the Special Move button. He can keep it out after using it once and even walk and jump around with it, so to put it away, simply press Down and the Special Move button again, by getting hit, taking damage. |
Final Smash
Bongo Blast (25%-35%) |
Donkey Kong takes out his DK Bongos and can beat on them. Soundwaves emit from them seperately as Donkey Kong beats on them. By tapping the Standard Move button, Donkey Kong will hit the right Bongo and by tapping the Special Move button, Donkey Kong will hit the left Bongo. Each soundwave that hits an opponent, will cause between 25% and 35%. |
