Petey Piranha is the ruler of the Piranha Plants who first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine as the boss of Bianco Hills. In addition to his gigantic head, Petey can fight using his two leaves as well as generate goop, which has been his trademark ever since Super Mario Sunshine. Additionally, he has made appearances as bosses in other games such as New Super Mario Bros. and Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Finally, Petey Piranha has been in multiple spin-off sports games, including Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour.

3% - 9%
Petey Piranha spins his leaves, summoning a Tweester, which is launched forward in the direction Petey is facing. When it encounters an opponent, it will pick them up, dealing 3% damage each second they remain inside. After three seconds, the Tweester will automatically release Petey's foe and fade away.
Petey spits out goop, which will cause slipping as well as 1% damage for each second his adversary remains in it. Occasionally, it will spawn Swoopin' Stus, which will rush at an enemy with moderate speed and deal 5% damage. However, they can be defeated by one strong attack or multiple weaker ones. Rarely, the goop will spawn small Piranha plants, which will lunge at any fighters, dealing 7% damage, until it vanishes when the goop is gone. After about 15 seconds, the goop will disappear.
Petey Piranha propels himself upward, then comes crashing down with incredible force.
A warp pipe appears and Petey descends into it. Another, which Petey will pop out of, will appear elsewhere, usually near an opponent.
Petey Piranha hacks and wheezes for a second, then spits out and enormous amount of goop that covers the entire stage. This attack is simply a more extreme version of Petey's Side Special, however, the Swoopin' Stus and Piranha Plants deal more knockback and are much more common. Petey can move around freely and attack after his has spit out the goop. Similarly, the goop will vanish after 15 seconds.
