Samus Aran is a bounty huntress who used to be a Galactic Federation soldier. She stays mostly in solitude and carries out missions given to her by the Galactic Federation, while hunting down the Space Pirates and their leader Ridley, and the titular parasitic aliens known as Metroids. Her past with Ridley is tragic; at an early age, she saw Ridley kill her parents right in front of her, this being one of the main roots of her vendetta against him. She was taken in by the bird-like aliens known as the Chozo, from the planet Zebes, was infused with their DNA, and raised and trained amongst them as a warrior. She fights mostly while wearing a suit of armor with a cannon on the arm, usually the Power Suit, though many upgrades are available throughout the series.

Special Traits

Samus is in her original style Power Suit here, allowing her greater mobility, agility, and speed than before. However, this makes some of her physical attacks slightly less strong.
Samus’s non-physical attacks usually come from her arm cannon. Her projectiles here have improved in power from Brawl. She also uses a Grapple Beam that can be used for grabs as well as a tether recovery.
Alternating between her Up and Down Taunt rapidly can be used as an alternate method of turning into Zero Suit Samus, as well as pressing a specific button on the controller.

Special Moves
Attack Name Damage Details
Standard Special   Charge Shot 3% - 26%   Samus charges a ball of energy to be shot from her cannon. This can range from slightly smaller than Mario’s Fireball as the minimum or as big as Kirby for the maximum. Samus can charge the shot by holding B, hold in the shot by letting go of B, allowing her to move freely while still having the shot at the amount she charged it, then release the shot by tapping B again, or charge it further by holding down B.
Side Special   Missile 3% - 10%   Samus fires a missile about the length of two of Mario’s Fireballs from her arm cannon. Samus will fire one of two missiles, depending on how the control stick is moved. Homing Missiles will come out if the direction is tilted. They home in on opponents very slowly, though they are poor at vertical movement, and will explode upon impact, causing about 3% to 5% damage. Super Missiles appear if the control stick is tapped straight forward, and move fast and straight forward and explode upon impact with anyone or anything, dealing 8% to 10% damage and decent knockback.
Up Special   Screw Attack 3% - 5%   Samus shoots into the air, curled up in a ball slightly, with electrical energy surrounding her. She spins around for about 2 extra jumps, and damages anyone who comes into contact with her.
Down Special   Morph Ball Bomb 2% - 7%   Samus goes into Morph Ball mode and drops a small bomb on the ground, which explodes after 2 seconds or if an opponent comes in contact with it. The explosion can launch Samus upward slightly, though it won’t damage her. In mid-air, bombing will automatically make Samus go into Morph Ball and slow down her fall. In the Morph Ball state, Samus can roll around freely and drop more bombs (3 on screen at a time) by pressing B. However, she is unable to use any of her other moves. She can go back to normal by pressing A.
Final Smash   Zero Laser 40% - 78%   Samus charges her buster and fires a giant beam of energy spanning at least 2/3 of Final Destination, lasting about 4 seconds. This is not necessarily a OHKO, but it can deal serious knockback in addition to the damage, and it can pull in items and enemies that are nearby enough. It can also be angled slightly up or down. After the Final Smash is finished, Samus’s armor is damaged and falls off, turning her into Zero Suit Samus. The fallen pieces of her armor can be picked up and thrown as items.

When Samus is stripped of her armor, she has a Zero Suit on underneath. Her only weapon is an Emergency Pistol. She only wants to have both of these as a last resort, and will quickly try to gain back her armor, weapons, and other upgrades. In Super Smash Brothers Brawl, the Pistol had a Plasma Whip attachment as well.

Special Moves
Attack Name Damage Details
Standard Special   Paralyzer 6% - 8%   Samus fires out a quick-moving, small ball of energy from her Pistol. This ball can be charged to be slightly bigger and do a bit more damage, but will automatically fire upon releasing B. This move will stun opponent for about 2 seconds, which is its main purpose.
Side Special   Plasma Whip 5% - 7%   Samus quickly whips straight forward with the Plasma Whip. This has multiple purposes. It can be used as a tether recovery, to grab opponents, or to grab items either on the stage or snatch them away from opponents.
Up Special   Plasma Wire 3% - 5%   Samus fires her whip upwards, which can be used to grab opponents and bring them down or as a tether recovery.
Down Special   Flip Jump 3% - 5%   Samus flashes as she does a flip and an arched jump in the air. It can function as a third jump, though it does not leave you in a helpless state, freeing you to use tether recovery to help further.
Final Smash   Power Suit Samus 20% - 36%   Samus stands still and floats up slightly as she radiates energy, pulling nearby opponents and items towards her and damaging anyone close enough. She then regains her suit somehow, which deals extra damage to anyone who was sucked in.
