Viy is a demon that sleeps deep within the earth. He’s so huge that he can’t move very well on his own and wouldn’t be able to see if it wasn’t for his minions who open and close his eyelids for him. It guards areas deep within the ruins of La-Mulana.

Fight Details
|
Viy doesn’t show his entire body, as it cannot fit on the screen. Rather, you can only see the top of him, his eye, and his tentacles. He slowly climbs up the screen, but luckily there are platforms for you to jump on to avoid touching Viy, which damages you. To damage Viy, you must hit him in the eye when it’s open. As Viy loses health, he climbs faster and faster.

Attack #1:
|
Tentacle Shot |
One of Viy’s tentacles simply hurls a small yellow ball of energy, much like the Super Scope’s bullets, except nowhere near as fast moving. It's a really simple attack and it's the one he uses almost all of the time. In fact, he uses in constantly and in conjunction with other attacks! They deal about 5% per strike. Used on every difficulty.

Attack #2:
|
Demonic Minions |
Viy roars loudly to summon his demon minions, which are shown in the picture. He summons only one on Easy and Medium, but all other difficulties spawn two demons. While these winged cretins don’t have any attacks, touching them deals damage. They can be defeated quite easily and only have 10% health. Touching the demons deals 5% damage. Used on every difficulty.

Attack #3:

Extend Eye |
Viy extends his eye out of its socket and it sprays energy balls which fly off screen before raining back down on the player (and Viy). Viy will only use this attack once the demons open his eye. Each projectile only does 3%, but there are lots of them to compensate for this shortcoming. This attack only appears on Medium and Hard or above.

Attack #4:

Viy Beam |
On Very Hard and Intense, Viy can sometimes fire a huge blue laser beam that deals about 35-40% damage if you allow him to attack after the demons open his eye. The laser beam lasts for about two seconds. The attack is denoted by blue energy being sucked into a ball above Viy’s eye. This attack is much less common than his Extend Eye attack. The laser beam extends about as long as 1/3 of the fighting arena.
